Vioxx Side Effects: Are You Suffering?

Thursday, January 31st, 2008

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Christopher_Ruane] Christopher Ruane Have you ever taken the drug Vioxx or celebrex? In September 2004 the drug manufacturer Merck decidedto recall the product after long term data suggesteda serious potential side effect. This drug and others like it such as as ‘Celebrex’,'Bextra’ and ‘Arcoxia’ are part of a family of drugsknown as “COX2 drugs” or “COX2 inhibitors” They have been developed with, ironically, patient safetyin mind. They are typically used in treatment of arthritis, though high dose vioxx was promoted for short term reliefof acute muscular/skeletal pains. They were anti-inflammatorydrugs. The serious side effects were in connection with the heartsuggesting risk of heart disease or heart attack. In medicalcircles it was referred to as “..adverse cardiovascular effects.” There are other drugs used to treat inflammation that have beenaround for many years.YOu may have heard of products such asAdvil or Nurofen which contain the ingredient Ibuprofen.Otherolder anti-inflammatory drugs include such brands as Voltarolor Naprosyn. What’s the difference between these older drugs and the recenttreatments know as “COX2 drugs”? The newer drugs such as Arcoxia,Celebrex and Vioxx were designedto be much more specific in their mode action than old drugs like Ibuprofen. The idea was to limit the associated problemsin long term treatment. When we get older we all seem to get more sensitive to sideeffects of drugs.Often this is complicated even more by thefact that we may suffer from more than one problem or diseaseat the same time. At this point we take more medication in the last five to tenyears of our lives than in all the other years put together! Is it any wonder we might feel under the weather, a little offcolour even? You could have asthma and high blood pressure.Anxiety and lack of sleep every night.Panic attacks and depression. If you take an anti-inflammatory drug for a given length of time, your doctor/physician will no doubt tell you aboutone major problem. Ulceration of the stomach or intestines….. It was hoped that the newer COX2 drugs would not cause this problem at all. Therefore it would avoid the risk of someonesuffering internal bleeding which could become fatal. The older you become the greater the risk of this occuring. It could be a slow blood loss or a sudden episode of an ulcerbleeding more profusely. So when people got the signs of ulcers, they got treatmentfor an ulcer. Some would stop taking medication and otherswould take a maintenance dose to prevent ulcers coming backwhile continuing to take the old ibuprofen drugs for theirarthritis. It was hoped drugs like vioxx would stop this, but ulcerationstill remains a possibility. Doctors routinely consider offeringanti ulcer drugs to reduce the probability of this happening. So what is the all the recent fuss about? Where did it allsuddenly seem to unravel after all that hope and expectation?A new long term study seemed to indicate some degree of riskto the heart some 18 months or so after starting treatment. So if you took vioxx for a week or a couple of months, thispotential problem did not appear. It has only been spottedafter taking the medication for a longer period such as 18 months. What can you do? Are there ways to reduce risks? This is something you need advice on as only your doctor willhave your medical history. There is much to consider and such a problem can in some circumstances be minimised. Of course if you smoke you increase the risk of stomachor intestinal ulceration if you also take anti-inflammatorydrugs such as Ibuprofen. Why not quit instead? If you take other medication for depression or anxiety thenthese drugs can increase the risk of bleeding with anyanti-inflammatory drug being taken at the same time.It has now been seen that all COX2 drugs on the marketcan show adverse effects on the heart. There Are Over A Million Websites That Cater To Men Looking To Meet Russian Women

Thursday, January 31st, 2008

By John Kunkle If you do a Search on the Goggle search engine under the Key Words Russian brides, over a million websites are listed. Virtually all of them are in the introduction business. They sell names, addresses and telephone numbers of Russian women seeking Western men. Many of them provide other services such as email forwarding, translation services, tours, and the procurement of gifts for your prospective woman. Many of them offer bits of advice on letter writing, Russian customs, tips on winning her heart, et cetera. These sites provide valuable services to those seeking to meet a Russian woman for romance. However, when I was starting out on my path, there was no place I could turn for an objective overview of the entire process. I had to piece together an approach after looking over hundreds of sites. Im the type to see a goal to its end and I was successful due to perseverance. However, my path could have been a lot faster, easier, and less costly if I had the book in my hand that you now have. Lets assume you have the time, energy, and money to pursue a Russian woman and lets assume you are willing to make a commitment to see your journey through to completion. Just how does a man go about wooing, winning, and wedding the woman of his dreams? Even if Russian women are the most beautiful, intelligent, exciting women in the world, and they are, how do you meet a woman who is halfway around the world, who comes from a different country and culture, and who speaks a different language? How do you go about making the dream a reality? Wooing a Russian woman can be a daunting task especially if you dont know the first thing about it. This book is written from a Western mans perspective and tells you exactly how to bring your dream into reality. This book outlines a complete plan of the nuts and bolts, step-by-step process of wooing, winning, and wedding the woman of your dreams. I wish I had such a book when I was starting out. You can avoid the costly mistakes I made mistakes that cost me time and money and heartache. It is meant to provide a resource that is sorely missing in this world. I try to present the information in this book as though I were telling my brother or my best friend how to go about this process. Although we have not yet met, I feel a responsibility to pass on what I have learned to those following in my footsteps. I may give examples from my own experience from time to time. They are meant to be instructive. I may share my opinions on certain subjects. Again they are meant to provide a lens through which to view the situation. Your experience and your perspective may be different. John has been successfully married to a Belarussian wife for over five years. He has traveled extensively through Russia and other CIS countries. He will tell you why you should consider Russian women, how to meet them, how to bring your special woman home, and how to survive married life.http://www.russian-luv.com/success.html Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=John_Kunkle http://EzineArticles.com/?There-Are-Over-A-Million-Websites-That-Cater-To-Men-Looking-To-Meet-Russian-Women&id=361580 buy phentermine hydrochloride phentermine no prescription no doctor top pharmacy phentermine buy phentermine with out a prescription

Floating Worm Tactics for Largemouth Bass

Wednesday, January 30th, 2008

By Jeff Morton A major staple for spring time bass fishing is the floating worm. The tactic can work well in pre-spawn and post-spawn situations. I have most of my success with a watermelon seed color but that is probably due to the confidence level and the amount of time I spend fishing with them. One look at the Wal-Mart shelves will show you that the most popular colors are bubblegum and white. A 2/0 hook on relatively light line is all that is needed for this rig. A baitcaster can be used if the worms are heavy enough but I prefer a 6′6″ medium spinning rod with 10lb test. I like to fish floating worms in the backs of coves and creeks lined with timber structure or boat docks. A typical retrieve is much like the retrieve of a jerk-bait. As the worm is retrieved it will dip, dart, and spin much like a casting spoon. This spinning will kink the line and could cause a bird nest on the spinning reel. To prevent this I use asmall black barrel swivel about 12 inches above the hook. The barrel swivel adds just enough weight to help with casting and will cause the worm to sink very slowly. This enables the fisherman to fish the bait on the surface with a steady retrieve or slow it down and fish it like a suspended jerk bait. Cast to the target and let it settle before beginning the twitch, twitch, pause, retrieve action. As the bait approaches the structure, I may change the cadence slightly pausing for several seconds letting the worm sink slowly down beside the structure. Student Life in Nottingham

Tuesday, January 29th, 2008

By Susan Ashby The city of Nottingham, with two universities and several smaller colleges, has a large and varied student population, which has contributed its own creative and edgy flavour to the citys younger neighbourhoods. Some 40,000 full-time students make Nottingham their place of education, life, work and entertainment. The University of Nottingham is the largest educational institution in the city, with about 32,000 registered students in 2005. It features one of Britains largest medical schools, and staffs the Queens Medical Centre teaching hospital. The principal University Park Campus lies just to the west of the Nottingham city centre, filled with award-winning buildings and green space. University Park has a dozen halls of residence for first year students (and others who wish to stay on campus), each holding 200-300 students: Ancaster Hall, Cavendish Hall, cripps Hall, Derby Hall, Florence Boot Hall, Hugh Stewart Hall, Lenton and Wortley Hall, Lincoln hall, Nightingale Hall, Rutland Hall, Sherwood Hall, and Willoughby Hall. Smaller nearby satellite campuses are the Jubilee Campus, with its three residence halls (Melton Hall, Newark Hall, and Southwell Hall), the Sutton Bonington Campus (with Bonington Hall made up of a conglomeration of smaller residences), and the Kings Meadow Campus. The university also maintains two international campuses in Malaysia and China. The University of Nottingham Students Union is made up of one hundred and fifty student societies and seventy two special interest clubs, and the universitys sport teams participate in the British Universities Sports Association. The undergraduates at the university produce a student magazine called Impact, run the University Radio Nottingham, and stage shows and special events at the New Theatre. The Campus 14 is a series of bars on the University Park campus; new students are often surreptitiously challenged to complete the bar crawl of consuming at least one drink at each location. The University of Nottinghams main rival in the city is the Nottingham Trent University (named for the Trent River which flows through the centre of town). It began as Trent Polytechnic, and later Nottingham Polytechnic, but became a full-fledged university in 1992, and now teaches over 25,000 students every year, focusing on a variety of useful and high end trades. Like its rival institution, Nottingham Trent has multiple campuses. The central campus, located near Shakespeare Street downtown, is known as the City Campus. Clifton Campus, home to humanities and science departments, and Brackenhurst Campus which focuses on rural and animal sciences, are located on the fringes of the city. The Nottingham Trent Students Union coordinates the activities of some three dozen student organizations, and maintains several student shops, bars, gyms, and other amenities. They also organize weekly music nights, publish the Platform student newspaper, and produce the Fly FM and Kick FM radio programmes. Other schools in the area which contribute to the lively student culture include New College Nottingham, the Nottingham School of Fashion, Confetti Institute of Creative Technologies, Nottingham High School, Bilborough College, Chilwell School, Nottingham High School for Girls, South Nottingham College, the Greenwood Dale Technology College, and The Nottingham Bluecoat School and Technology College. The Old Market Square, Canalside, the Lace Market, and Hockley Village are popular areas for off-campus student entertainment. The Waterfront and The Corner House are popular gathering places, as are The Palais, Ohm, Bar None, Cucamara, Lizard Lounge, The Cookie Club, Jongleurs, Bell Inn, Daniels Hall, The Square, Muse, and the other three hundred and fifty pubs, bars, clubs and restaurants. One shouldnt miss a visit to Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem, either — the oldest pub in England, built half in a cave in the side of a sandstone bluff. The city boasts numerous music venues, especially Rock City, The Rescue Rooms, Stealth, The Social, Junktion 7, The Old Angel, The Edge, Media, Ocean, The Bomb, Blueprint, The Works and the Boat Club, in addition to the Royal Concert Hall and the Nottingham Arena. There are also numerous cinemas, live theatres, and interactive art galleries to suit the visually inclined. The Arboretum Park, Abbey Court, The LeftLion underground magazine and website provide a valuable guide to music and social events for students and young people. The organization is named after the leftmost of the pair of large stone lions which decorate the steps of the Council House in Old Market Square — rumour has it the left-hand lion is named Brian, while the other is Ryan. The square has also been a gathering place for student events and celebrations, such as the winning of the European Cup and the F.A. Cup by local football team Nottingham Forest. The universities and other local sites are connected by the Nottingham Express Transit, or NET trams. Shopping areas like Broadmarsh Shopping Centre, Victoria Centre, and Flying Horse Walk are easily accessible to students, as are the high-fashion neighbourhoods of Hockley Village and Bridlesmith Gate. Gardening - Rose Diseases

Sunday, January 27th, 2008

By Bill McRea To make sure that your prized roses remain in the best of health, simply follow these tips. 1. Black Spots on Leaves This disease is commonly known as black spot. Black spots appear as circular with fringed edges on leaves. They cause the leaves to yellow. Remove the infected foliage and pick up any fallen leaves around the rose. Artificial sprays may be used to prevent or treat this kind of rose disease. 2. Stunted or malformed young canes Known as powdery mildew, this is a fungal disease that covers leaves, stems and buds with wind spread white powder. It makes the leaves curl and turn purple. Spray with Funginex or Benomyl to treat this fungal disease. 3. Blistered underside of leaves Known as rust, this disease is characterized by orange-red blisters that turn black in fall. It can survive the winter and will then attack new sprouts in the spring. Collect and discard leaves that are infected in fall. a Benomyl or Funginex spray every 7-10 days may help. 4. Malformed or stunted leaves and flowers This is caused by spider mites. They are tiny yellow, red or green spiders found on the underside of leaves where they suck juices. The application of Orthene or Isotox may help in treating this infestation. 5. Weak and mottled leaves with tiny white webs under them This is caused by aphids. They are small soft-bodied insects that usually brown, green or red. Often clustered under leaves and flower buds, they suck plant juices from tender buds. Malathion or diazinon spray may help roses to survive these bugs. 6. Flowers that don’t open or are deformed when they open. Thrips could be the reason behind this problem. They are slender, brown-yellow bugs with fringed wings that also suck juices from flower buds. Cut and discard the infested flowers. Orthene and malathion may also treat this problem. Remember that roses are hungry feeders that require much fertilizer to become healthy bushes. Bill McRea is the publisher of Garden Facts and the Article Directory. A Tiger on the Line - Some Common Trout Hybrids

Sunday, January 27th, 2008

By Jeffrey Gray Most trout fishermen are familiar with the basic species they will encounter in their local streams t and lakes. Rainbow (the most commonly stocked fish), lake trout, brown trout, Brook trout and even the rarer Cutthroat and Apache all have their own fisheries and public education programs. However, anglers may not be aware of the rarer and prized hybrids that are produced by hatcheries or occur rarely in nature. One of the more prized and certainly most dramatic trout hybrid species is the Tiger trout. Tiger trout are notable because of their markings and their voracious appetites, but what exactly are they? Tiger trout are the result of a cross or hybridization between the brook and the brown trout. Although this hybrid can be produced easily in a hatchery, it is extremely rare (though not unheard of) in the wild. Tiger trout have been stocked across the U.S. in the tens of thousands and provide an exciting alternative to normal fare. They are know for their aggressive feeding habits and stronger than average fighting ability. Also, because of their previously mentioned appetite, they can be used to control invasive species such as the Utah Chub. Adding to the benefit of stocking Tiger Trout is the fact that they are sterile. This allows them to skip the spawning stage and grow into their 4th and 5th year. The Tiger trout has a greenish tint under water that immediately makes it look unique. Its coloring pattern is almost leopard-like, with swirling stripes that give it the tiger name. Wild Tiger trouonly inhabit streams and lakes where Brook trout and Brown trout share habitat. Stocked Tiger trout can be found in any environment that can support Brook trout and will often be added by state fishery managers to attract anglers or provide variety. Another, and more common, hybrid is the Splake. The Splake is a cross between the Brook trout and the Lake trout. Splake were first produced in Canada in the 1870s, but now are common in the Great lakes and northern fisheries. While a Splake may look like a Brook trout, it is usually much larger and has a slight fork in the tail. The advantages of establishing a Splake fishery make them very attractive for anglers and for fishery management. Splake grow at a faster rate than stocked Brook trout and live longer than stocked trout. Also, they feed on other fish that out-compete with Brook trout such as yellow and white perch. This makes them a good control element to introduce to marginal fisheries. Splake survived to older ages than stocked brook trout. A third species, gaining popularity in the mid-Atlantic region, is the Golden Rainbow trout. These were originally bred in Petersburg, West Virginia back in 1954 and Petersburg now calls itself the Golden Rainbow trout capital of the world. Golden Rainbows are, for all intents and purposes, Rainbow trout and will usually be included in a Rainbow stocking for variety. Trophy Goldens make for great mountings and conversation pieces. So, if you ever find yourself holding one of these prizes you wont have to wonder what youve landed. The rare Tiger is sought after, the Golden Rainbow stands out like a nugget in the stream and the Splake is a sought after ice fishing target. As always, tight lines and leave no trace. Fly Killers

Friday, January 25th, 2008

By Vernon Stent Why do people want the same things at the same time? Surely the smart thing to do is to buy things when they are not in favour, and pick up a bargain. Ill show you how you can save plenty of money by being unfashionable. People like me can always get a good deal when it comes to clothes. I have no fashion sense, you see. So, when everyone else is buying the latest fashions, I am picking up bargains. The cheapest raincoat you can buy is when the rainy season has finished. Hang on, this is going nowhere. I think my logic is flawed. There I am in my unfashionable wet-through clothes, eating Christmas dinner in January. Theres something wrong here. Well, I suppose thats the end of this article, Ive just played devils advocate with myself, and the devil won. Except, there are some products where it may still work. Yes, I think I can redeem myself. You see, I work for a company that sells fly control equipment. Trouble is, at this time of year there are very few flies and wasps around. So do we go dormant like the flies? Oh, if only we could! No we cut prices to the bone and wait for some unfashionable buyers to make a purchase. And they do! Because when it comes to buying fly killers, uv lamps and glueboards and spares for Fly Killers, the really smart buyers wait until this time of year and make a killing (sorry, couldn’t resist that). So why not be really unfashionable. If you are a buyer of fly killers, do it now! Informative Articles + Hoodia News = the Hoodia Info Blog

Thursday, January 24th, 2008

By Patsy Hamilton One of my responsibilities is to read hoodia reviews, hoodia articles and hoodia testimonials. I have come up with an equation: hoodia review articles + hoodia testimonials = customer satisfaction. But, when it comes to hoodia herb combinations, there are some very strange products out there. The ingredients included in some of these products make me wonder if they really work for anybody. First, hoodia itself is not an herb. Many people are confused because it is sold by companies that sell herbs and other natural dietary supplements. Hoodia is a succulent plant native to the deserts of southern Africa. Many of the supplement companies sell a hoodia herb combo and depending on the ingredients, these may not be as effective at suppressing appetite as 100% hoodia products. Hoodia Gordonii Plus is one of the better hoodia herb combos we’ve found and there is a complete article devoted to the interesting herbs added to hoodia gordonii concentrate at our Hoodia Info Blog One hoodia herb combo that we looked at recently contains something called Banaba leaf. You might think that this is a misspelling of banana, but Banaba is an island in the Pacific Ocean. It is also a tree. Banaba leaf has been used to lower blood glucose levels and the hoodia herb combo which contains Banaba leaf just does not make sense to us. Hoodia gordonii is believed to affect nerve cells that monitor blood glucose levels, creating a false signal that blood glucose has increased. A hoodia herb combo which contains an ingredient that may lower blood glucose levels seems contradictory. Our conclusion; Banaba leaf + hoodia gordonii may not equal customer satisfaction. It seems to take 100% genuine hoodia gordoni products at relatively high doses (750-1000mg) to effectively suppress most peoples appetites. This conclusion was arrived at by reading informal studies by doctors following patients using hoodia gordonii and by reading customer comments posted at sites dedicated to reviewing hoodia products. We have evaluated many hoodia herb combos and our best advice is as follows: First, consult your doctor before you buy any hoodia herb combo, certain ingredients can affect blood pressure and heart rate. Second, read the listed ingredients, if you dont know what something is or what it can do, dont buy it until you look it up. Third, there are many natural stimulants which have the same effect on the body as caffeine, refer back to the second suggestion. And fourth, only purchase products that display a CITES certificate, which helps separate products containing real hoodia from those that do not. We came up with this playful equation for our conclusion: informational articles + hoodia gordonii + doctors advice + reasonable diet + appropriate exercise + water = happy hoodia customers. The Everyday Evolution

Tuesday, January 22nd, 2008

By Jason Mordecai It is a wonderment to consider that from a small laptop operating from the north of Johannesburg South Africa, it is possible to broadcast information to the furthest reaches of our planet. One would think that with such a remarkable tool, a little respect & responsibility would be required. Despite the seemingly infinite pages of startling information accessible on the web, the Internet is plagued with stupefying games, gambling sites and porn. Furthermore, it is used to create a myriad of distractions that hide away the greyness and purposelessness that has subtly infiltrated millions of lives. Even worse, the “dark side of the internet” along with it’s cousins the play-station and satellite television are robbing our children of a childhood composed of falling out of trees, riding bicycles, star gazing and of course that wondrous substance called mud. Health is a multifaceted topic, general health, bodily health, mental health, spiritual health, planetary health and so on. In the recent past, the global theme has been sickness. Western society has focused its narrow outlook on how to control sickness in the most profitable way. The paradigm is however changing; health and wellness isnt just an idea anymore, it has become a movement connected to a lifestyle. As this new way of life takes root within bits and pieces of our global society, changes are becoming apparent. Millions of people are moving away from traditional allopathic medicine towards complementary medicine. Better yet, people are beginning to question the wisdom of our medical doctors whose advice has gone unquestioned for so long. The critical issue of sustainable energy is now also filtering down to the lives of the everyday man. Throughout the world there are subcultures of people creating alternative energy sources such as bio-diesel within their own homes. The power of health and energy is transferring from the hands of giant corporates into the hands of the man in the street. Taking responsibility for one’s own life is becoming far more accessible and pressing. As big as this may sound, becoming part of this new movement is a simple task. All that is required are some small steps. Take some everyday evolutionary steps: Explore the natural world around you, there are a thousands of miraculous interactions happening all the time, even within your common pot plant which is tasked with converting the suns energy into food. Explore the wonder of breath. As you are reading this take note, of what percentage of your lungs are you using? How does it feel to use even 5% more, now what about 10%? Maintain your health proactively - remember that unless fruit and vegetables are grown organically, they don’t offer all the nutrition that you require, so source good products that supplement your nutrition Enlist your five senses in becoming aware of changes in your world around you, does the air smell different? Does it look more or less clear? How has the temperature changed? What about the noise levels? What has this got to do with me? Lastly, more than informative, this article can be regarded as a call to arms. Drop your computer for the day, escape the endless traffic, abandon your preoccupations with suviving the rat race and the demands that modern life has placed on you, a stones throw away from you is a rock on some earth, and under that rock is the revelation of life waiting to interact with you.
