It’s Not Just About Dieting

Monday, May 26th, 2008

By Jan Nicholas You may not like what Im about to say, but dieting alone will not help you to lose weight. You have to give your body the exercise it needs. As I mentioned earlier, a couple of centuries ago, people were involved in a lot of manual labor. This gave their bodies all the exercise that was needed. But due to the changed life styles, most of us do not have to engage in strenuous work. Most of us sit in front of computers all day long or engage in other sedentary works. It is because of this that exercise becomes crucial for weight loss. Generally people do not gain weight till their early twenties. But once they cross the 25 mark, then visible signs of weight gain can be seen everywhere and in the mid section in particular. There is something very important that you have to understand if you are really considering the possibility of losing weight. You will have to consciously give your body the required exercise that it needs for the weight loss to be really effective. Watching your diet alone is not going to yield results unless it is coupled with proper exercise. You have to make a conscious effort for this. And the solution for this is a work out routine. When we think about the life in the country, there is always something rosy about it. What is it that the people in the country have that we do not? When you ponder about it you find that those lucky souls eat good food, they work really hard, by work I mean real physical work and they have good nights sleep. Of course they do not have all the amenities and facilities that the city life has to offer. But the city life comes with a lot of strings attached. People in the cities are generally less healthy than the people in the country. One of the reasons is pollution of course but the other reason is because people in the city do not get enough exercise. Now, when I talk about healthy bodies please make no mistake about what I am referring to. I am not talking about the Mr. Universe kind of body, the bodies that we see on WWF. I am talking about people who are fit. And fitness and exercise are just two sides of the same coin. They both go hand in hand. In order to stay fit you need exercise and in order to exercise you need to be fit. But just because you are not fit now, it does not mean that you shouldnt exercise. And just like that, just because you do not have any visible excess fat on your body right now, it does not mean that you need no exercise. Exercise is the best way to keep obesity, cardio vascular disorders, hypertension and all those lifestyle-related disorders under control. First of all let us get one point straight, exercise does not necessarily mean pumping metal. If you do have the time to go to a gymnasium everyday, then that is well and good. But I suppose most of us do not have the time for a regular work out in a gym. So the other alternative is to do it at home of course. But whether it is at home or at a multi-gym, there is something that I want to tell you. Whatever you are doing, you must try and do it regularly. Consistency is very important for an exercise routine to have the desired effect on our body. Getting started is the easy part, it is sticking to a regular exercise routine that is difficult and this is what makes most people give up in between. Most people get on to a beautiful start. They buy track suits and gym-wear, running shoes and a whole lot of other gear. Their first day at the gym is almost a celebration. Then as the days go on, they find it increasingly difficult to meet the domestic and professional demands and so their routine slows down and finally comes to a complete workout burn out. In other words, the stop working out completely It is a universal fact that the most chosen time for work outs is the evenings. If you can stick to work out in the evenings then it is well and good. But most of us find ourselves exhausted in the evenings. We find ourselves physically and mentally drained. And at that time our bodies will be just too tired for a work out. The result is that after the first few days of working out, the interest just dwindles away. The other reason is that in the evenings a thousand and one things may crop up and then there is hardly time for a warm up. So it is best to set aside some time for exercise in the morning itself. There are two advantages of setting apart time in the morning. The first advantage is that in the morning our bodies are fresh and full of energy. Now over here I want to make one point clear. There is a popular misconception that exercise depletes the body of energy but the case is just the opposite. Exercise pumps up more blood through the different parts of the body and warms up the body, so in fact, after exercise we feel more charged and ready to face the challenges of the day. The second advantage is that in the morning we can plan for the whole day without letting the exercise routine affect the rest of our activities. What about those of us who have never worked out before? In such cases you might need to start off under the personal supervision of an instructor and that may require that you go to a gym. But what I would suggest is that there are two simple things that any one can do for which you do not need the help of any instructor. You know what these are? They are walking and swimming. Any body can walk and those of you who know how to swim can swim. For these two activities you do not need much gear and experts say that these two exercises have no side effects and are excellent stress busters. So in the morning wake up just half an hour earlier, put on your walking shoes and hit the roads. Most roads will be less crowded at this hour and less polluted too. It is a wonderful way to start a day. Dealing With A Jealous Date

Saturday, May 17th, 2008

By Peter Portero You go out to dinner, to the movies, or to the mall, and when you glance at another person your date starts seething. How should you handle a jealous date? Remember, jealousy is often about insecurity. Perhaps your glance did linger a bit too long on the attractive person at the next table, or maybe you did smile flirtatiously at your restaurant server. If your date’s display of jealousy is a one-time event, soothe the hurt feelings with a reminder that you find them the most attractive person in the room. Some folks, however, seem to live in a constant state of jealousy. Every move you make is scrutinized, and if it’s deemed inappropriate, the jealous partner may react with rage and fury. Whether their jealousy stems from your behavior or their own personal insecurities, you may need to evaluate the relationship again. Living with a jealous person can be emotionally draining and exhausting. You must offer constant reassurance, as well as be forever vigilante of possible jealousy-inducing situations. Some folks feel that they must constantly avert their eyes from members of the opposite sex, lest they feel their partner’s wrath. If your partner’s jealousy is significantly affecting your life, you may need to reconsider your relationship. Try talking with your partner about your concerns. If nothing changes, it may be time to move on. And, as always, if your partner’s jealousy leads to any type of emotional abuse or physical violence, leave the relationship immediately. Streamate, or “stream mate” refers to meeting someone online through webcams. Ideas for Shooting a Memorable Wedding Video

Wednesday, May 14th, 2008

By Morgan Hamilton There a lot of decisions that must be made when it comes to planning a wedding. For instance, a decision must be made on the venue of the ceremony. Decisions must also be made on the number of guests to invite and the food that would be served to them. Of course, decisions on important aspects such as the finances and the decorations must also be made. Looking into hiring someone to do a wedding video is one of the items on most couples’ to-do lists. The idea of a wedding video only really cropped up with the popularity of the home video camera, though its been standard for years for couples to hire professional photographers to shoot their wedding photographs. Making videos for weddings has eventually blossomed into a huge industry. The first decision that a couple must make is whether they really need a wedding video. This decision will depend both on personal preferences and budget. There are a handful of things that need to be considered in addition to these two criteria. A couple has to decide on the length of the wedding video and the people who will watch it. Some couples content themselves with the photographs and the memories of the wedding, while some couples still opt for having a wedding video done to capture their special day. You have to think about who you are going to hire to shoot the video if you do decide to get a wedding video done. Professional videographers often have samples of their work that you can view. This means that you will have the opportunity to decide if you like their styles or not. The problem with hiring professional videographers is that they are often expensive. A couple can easily end up paying as much as the photos by hiring a professional videographer. Hiring a student from a local university or community college film class can also be a great option. Many of these students are quite talented but havent had a chance to flex their creative muscles. This muscle-flexing comes cheap, especially if they can use the video to fulfill a class requirement. However, you have to go over exactly what you want with the student beforehand, and make sure that the student knows what he or she is doing if you do opt for a student-produced wedding video. 10 Ways to Speed-Up Your Job Search Effort

Friday, May 9th, 2008

By Dee Davis Today everyone knows at least one person who has lost their job to down-sizing, right-sizing, cut-backs, production reduction or a mean, vicious bogus leader who could care less about your family, your life or your existence at the company. This may sound a bit overboard, but everyone has probably experienced the manager, supervisor or company leader from hell, and if you havent just stick around. It is this type of leadership that is taking companies down the path of death and destruction. So whats a jobless person to do? First you must get organized and do a serious self examination. Look at the things you love to do, your gifts and talents. This is not fluff, you may be at the best time of your life if you are willing to get real and do some serious work. You cannot expect others to do this for you, you have to own the unemployment label, and decide where you want to go from here. Leave the pity party for later. Do you have a charismatic personality? Have you ever done sales? Cant live knowing that your life depends on you getting a commission? Try it. Yes, thats easy for me to say, but nothing ventured nothing gained and you should always have more faith in yourself than a bogus leader. It is unfair and foolish for employees today to think that their employer should always have their best interest in mind when planning company growth and expansion. The company leadership is looking out for the bottom line and thats all. In a perfect world they would care about workers, but this is not a perfect world its a global economy and its all about the Benjamins. Here are 10 things you must do before starting your job search: 1. Do an honest in-depth evaluation of your job skills. Take a serious look at your management, financial, communication, research and computer skills. 2. List all those transferable skills, for example, auditing, appraising, recruiting troubleshooting and organizing, and all those task that fit under the umbrella labeled other duties as directed. 3. When writing your resumes select your words carefully. Use only strong, positive points that are relevant to the job you are seeking. 4. Use skill titles and job headings that match the job you want. Unrelated job titles are a sure indication that you do not have knowledge about the position. 5. Consider doing contractual work. Just consider it. 6. Practice your interviewing skills before the actual interview, and master the one important aspect of nonverbal communicationeye contact. 7. Consider taking a job in an area outside your comfort zone. You might like it. 8. Remember to speak with those folks willing to act as a reference. Never assume that they will say positive things about you, call them and make sure your relationship is still sound. 9. Never email a cover letter as an attachment without a signature. Those cover letters without signatures are often the ones eliminated first. Use a scanner or email from a copy store i.e. Kinkos that will allow you to scan your signature and send a signed cover letter. 10. Keep track of all those positions you are applying for and make sure the people living with you are aware you are applying for positions so they answer the telephone with style and grace. You are a representation of the type of home your come from, so remind everyone to be professional. To learn more about bogus leaders visit http://www.paraview.com/features/bogus_leadership.htm . D. Even The Wind And The Sea Obey!

Saturday, May 3rd, 2008

By Ann Stewart Wind storms, snow storms, hurricanes, tornadoes, typhoons, tsunamis, you name it, they seem to be everywhere these days! And, yes, they are more frequent and dangerous than ever before. The whole world is clamoring for climate change and trying to figure out what to do about it. The Bible has this to say about the multitude of severe weather calamities all over the world: “there shall be earthquakes in diverse places, and there shall be famines and troubles.” (Mark 13: 8; Mat. 24: 7) That does not sound good, does it? Nor do I see anywhere in the Word that weather patterns will reverse and improve! In order to take the above verse in context, you will notice that both gospels prefix that same verse with: “see that ye be not troubled.” God never gives a glimpse into the future without also giving you a way out! No matter what happens all around you, He never leaves you forsaken! He has provided a Way! Jesus is the Way, the Truth and the Life. (John 14: 6) He has given you His Spirit, who indwells you, if you have made Him Lord of your life. Through the Holy Spirit, who is your link to God, you can do whatever Jesus did, and whatever you ask in His Name, that He will do! (John 14: 12-13) So, let’s have a look at how Jesus weathered storms in His earthly ministry. When He got caught in a severe storm, which flooded the ship, he was fast asleep on a pillow! The disciples were very afraid. They woke Him up, incredulously asking why He did not care that they were about to drown. Jesus calmly stood up, rebuked the wind, and told the sea to be still. Instantly the wind stopped and the sea became very calm. Then He simply asked the men why they had been so fearful and had no faith! They just couldn’t believe it; in fact, they feared even more, wondering how even the wind and the sea obeyed Him! (Mark. 4: 37-41) Jesus spoke and did everything that He heard the Father tell Him through the Holy Spirit in Him. (John 14: 10) He fully expected the disciples, to whom He had given power to “tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy; and nothing shall by any means hurt you.” (Luke 10: 19) The disciples had a lot of experience praying for miracles. When they delivered people from devils, they did as they had seen Jesus do, commanding them to go. They did not say a little prayer, asking God to please deliver these folks. No, they had to take the authority given to them and speak it to the situation. I can only surmise that they had up until that stormy night not applied their God-given authority to themselves and their own situations. In the ship they did not pray for themselves, and did not realize that they had the authority to rebuke the evil force that was about to kill them all. Jesus was their example; he slept in total peace throughout the storm. Why? Because He relied wholly on God; He was in total faith. He waited for them to take authority. When they did not, He showed them how, explaining at the same time how they needed to excercise their faith. What do you do when thunderstorms and the like threaten your life? Do you prepare spiritually as well as you may do physically by storing emergency supplies and back-up power? Are you aware that the Power and Authority within you are infinitely more powerful than any force of nature? The Word of God is Truth. If it worked for the disciples, it works for you. How do I know? Because I do it; and it works! Even my pastor laughingly tells folks, ‘if you don’t want rain on your wedding day, call Ann!’ I describe in my book how that it poured on the day of my daughters’ double wedding, but it did not come near us. Every time my husband and I need to travel through rain, I command the rain to stop in the mighty Name of Jesus whenever we leave or arrive at our destination. It may be pouring cats and dogs on the way, but when I assist him in or out with his wheelchair, miraculously it stops every time! Whenever storms threaten power outages, I always pray that there will be light in Goshen. Just as God saved the land of Goshen, where the Israelites lived, from all the terrible plagues of Egypt,(Ex. 7 - 11) so will He save your ‘Goshen’ in the midst of tempests all around you! As Jesus taught, it’s all about faith, and faith needs to be exercised. Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God. (Rom. 10: 17) Be encouraged, therefore. Read the Word diligently and start applying it to your life. God’s Word does not return unto Him void; but shall accomplish what He pleases! (Isa. 55: 11) If God said it; I believe it; and that settles it! How about you? Wireless Jargon / Glossary

Thursday, May 1st, 2008

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Jason_Keno]Jason Keno Wireless networking, like so many things in life — and especially the ones that have anything to do with computers — is filled with jargon. Hi-tech babble baffles many Don’t be intimidated, though: here’s a quick computer-speak to English guide to help you out. 802.11. The name of the wireless networking standard, set by the IEEE. Ensures that wireless devices are interoperable. Driver. A piece of computer software that tells the computer how to talk to devices that are plugged into it. For wireless networking, the drivers you need to install will come on a CD with any equipment you buy. Ethernet. The most common way of connecting to a LAN. Any wires you might have connecting your computers together now are Ethernet wires, and the cable connecting your modem to your computer is probably an Ethernet wire too. Ghz. Gigahertz. A measurement of frequency — one gigahertz is one billion cycles per second. You may recognise the measurement from computer processor speeds, which are now also measured in Ghz. IEEE. The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. In charge of the wireless networking standard, as well as many other computer-related standards (including the Ethernet standard). They ensure that computer equipment made by different manufacturers can work together. Interoperable. Means that two pieces of equipment are compatible — you can use them together, because they stick to the standards. You should not get any wireless equipment that isn’t interoperable. LAN. Local Area Network. A network that is generally confined to one building, such as a home or office. A wireless LAN is also known as a WLAN. Linux. An alternative operating system to Windows. Computers running Linux can run many programs and connect to the Internet without needing Windows. Linux is free to download and you are allowed to give it to friends to use. A lot of wireless devices run Linux, or are compatible with it. MAN. Metropolitan Area Network. A network that covers a larger area, for example a town or city. Wireless MANs (men?) spread Internet access all over the area, but are expensive to set up. They are sometimes used on university campuses. Mbps. Megabits per second, a measurement of connection speed. Not to be confused with MBps, megabytes per second. There are eight megabits in a megabyte. PAN. Personal Area Network. These are networks made up of devices connected together in one small area. For example, your computer with a USB keyboard and mouse connected is a PAN. PANs can be wireless, using a technology called Bluetooth. PCI. Peripheral Component Interconnect. This is a way of installing new devices inside your computer, such as graphics cards and network devices. If you want to install a wireless card inside your computer, you will be using PCI. PCMCIA. Personal Computer Memory Card International Association (some say it should stand for ‘People Can’t Memorise Computer Industry Acronyms’). A standard for plugging credit card-sized devices into a laptop, to give it extra capabilities. PCMCIA is a great way of adding wireless networking to your laptop as easily as inserting a disk. USB. Universal Serial Bus. A port used for connecting all sorts of devices to a computer, including keyboards, mice, printers, external drives, and almost anything else you can think of. If you don’t want to open up your computer and you don’t have a laptop, you can get a USB wireless device. WAN. Wide Area Network. A network that is connected over more than one physical site, such as a business that has its computers in two countries connected on one network. The Internet, for example, is a WAN — the biggest WAN in the world. WEP. Wired Equivalent Privacy. The old standard for encrypting wireless networks. Unfortunately, it was found to be insecure back in 2001, and so should no longer be used. WPA. Wi-Fi Protected Access. Basically an upgrade of WEP to fix its security problems. WPA-encrypted networks change their encryption method often, to avoid becoming vulnerable, and also shut down for thirty seconds if they detect a suspected attack.
